The provincial government is expropriating land along the south side of the Trans-Canada Highway between Grand Falls-Windsor and Bishop’s Falls as work advances on a highway twinning project.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure says the expropriation is required for construction and is being carried out under Section 3(b) of the Expropriation Act, which allows land to be acquired for road and bridge construction, repairs and maintenance.

The project was announced on December 18, 2025, as part of the province’s plans to twin sections of the Trans-Canada Highway.

The department has retained a surveyor to identify affected properties and has begun notifying property owners. Notices will also be posted at various locations within the project area.

Property owners who believe their land may be affected but have not been contacted are asked to email TI@gov.nl.ca.
