Province announces more than $9 million for municipal infrastructure projects

The provincial government is investing more than $9 million in municipal capital works projects across Newfoundland and Labrador through the Build Communities Strong Fund community stream.

Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Barry Petten announced the funding on Monday in St. Mary’s, where more than $656,000 is being allocated for the second phase of culvert replacement work in the community.

The project will see approximately 34 culverts removed and replaced, followed by road reinstatement once construction is complete. The work is expected to improve stormwater management throughout the town.

The province says the funding will support critical water, wastewater and related municipal infrastructure projects in communities across Newfoundland and Labrador. The investments are intended to help maintain reliable services, protect public health and strengthen infrastructure residents rely on daily.

The program provides cost-shared funding to support strategic infrastructure improvements, allowing municipalities to modernize essential services, improve system reliability and support long-term community growth.

The provincial government says investments in municipal infrastructure play an important role in supporting housing development, economic growth, environmental sustainability and community resilience.

Through partnerships with the federal government under programs such as the BCSF, the province says it is working with municipalities to renew aging infrastructure and address local priorities.
