Powerful storm to blow across Newfoundland today

Today will be quite stormy across most of Newfoundland. Snow is expected today along the southwest coast, the west coast, and central Newfoundland. For the Burin and Avalon Peninsulas, snow is expected this morning, the snow will transition to ice pellets and eventually rain.

Avalon Peninsula: Snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm are expected. The snow will mix with, or change to rain along parts of the coast.


Central Newfoundland: Clarenville and vicinity, Bonavista Peninsula, Terra Nova, and Connaigre will see 30 to 40 cm of snow and winds gusting between 80 and 100 km/h. The snow will continue until late this evening.


Gander, Grand Falls-Windsor, northeastern Newfoundland, and the interior will receive about 15 to 30 cm, with locally higher amounts possible. The snow will end near midnight tonight.


South Coast: Snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm are expected. The snow will mix with or change to rain along parts of the coast.
