Online passport renewal now available to all eligible adult Canadians

The federal government has expanded its online passport renewal service, making it available to all eligible adult Canadians living in Canada.

The announcement was made by Lena Metlege Diab, who said the change is part of the government's effort to modernize passport services and make them more accessible.

Eligible Canadians can now renew their passports entirely online by submitting their application, passport photo and payment digitally, eliminating the need to mail documents or visit a Service Canada centre in many cases.

The government said the expanded service is intended to save time and improve access for Canadians, particularly those living in rural or remote communities or those with mobility challenges. Traditional in-person and mail-in renewal options will remain available for those who prefer or require them.

The expansion follows several recent improvements to Canada's passport program, including an online application status checker, expanded access to 10-business-day passport service at select Service Canada locations, and a passport service guarantee that applications will be processed within 30 business days or the passport will be provided at no cost.

The federal government said the changes are designed to deliver more secure, convenient and user-friendly passport services for Canadians.
