Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services is reminding residents to take precautions as flu and respiratory illness season continues across the province.
Influenza cases remain present, with most linked to influenza A. Seniors, young children, people with chronic health conditions and pregnant individuals are at higher risk of severe illness.
NL Health Services is encouraging residents to take steps to reduce the spread of respiratory viruses, including getting vaccinated, staying home when sick, wearing a mask in crowded or indoor settings, washing hands frequently, coughing or sneezing into a sleeve or tissue, and regularly disinfecting commonly touched surfaces.
Visitors to hospitals and long-term care homes are required to self-screen for COVID-19 or other respiratory symptoms before entering. Those who are unwell are asked to delay visits until at least 24 hours after symptoms have resolved. In exceptional situations, such as labour and delivery or end-of-life care, visitation should be arranged in consultation with the clinical care team.
