A cooler and brighter day is expected across much of Newfoundland and Labrador on Tuesday as the low-pressure system that brought rain, snow and gusty winds moves away. Skies will gradually clear across most regions through the morning and afternoon, with temperatures ranging from the mid-single digits along exposed coasts to near 11°C inland.
Eastern Newfoundland and Avalon Peninsula
The St. John's area and much of the Avalon Peninsula will begin the day under cloudy skies before sunshine breaks through during the morning. Northwest winds will ease through the day, becoming light by noon. Highs will reach around 5°C along the coast, with inland areas climbing to 9°C. Southeastern and southwestern portions of the Avalon can expect a mix of sun and cloud, clearing later in the day with afternoon temperatures near 7°C.
Central Newfoundland
From Clarenville and Bonavista to Gander, Grand Falls-Windsor and the Exploits Valley, a mix of sun and cloud is expected after a cloudy start. Many inland communities will warm to around 9 to 11°C. A few afternoon showers may develop across parts of Central Newfoundland, particularly near the Bay of Exploits, Green Bay and interior regions.
South Coast
The Burin Peninsula and Connaigre region will see a pleasant mix of sun and cloud with highs generally between 6 and 11°C, depending on proximity to the coast. Along the southwest coast, including Burgeo and Ramea, increasing southeast winds will develop with a risk of scattered afternoon showers and highs near 8°C.
West Coast
From Channel-Port aux Basques through Corner Brook, Deer Lake and Gros Morne, skies will feature a mix of sun and cloud with only a slight chance of showers. Temperatures will climb to around 10 or 11°C in many inland locations, making it one of the warmest regions in the province.
Northern Peninsula
A mainly dry day is expected across the Northern Peninsula with a mix of sun and cloud becoming increasingly sunny through the afternoon. High temperatures will reach around 8°C, with lighter winds developing after a breezy start to the morning.
Western Labrador
Labrador City and Wabush will enjoy a pleasant start to the day with a mix of sun and cloud before skies become cloudier during the afternoon. Temperatures will climb to around 14°C, making it one of the warmest areas in the province. Churchill Falls and the Churchill Valley can expect increasing cloudiness through the day, with a chance of afternoon showers and highs near 12°C.
Central Labrador
From Happy Valley-Goose Bay and Upper Lake Melville through the Eagle River region, skies will begin partly sunny before cloud cover increases around midday. Temperatures are expected to rise to a warm 16°C, although a few showers may develop later in the day and into the evening.
Northern Labrador
Communities from Nain south to Hopedale will see increasing cloudiness through the day. Periods of showers are expected to develop by late morning or afternoon, with temperatures reaching 7°C in Nain and around 9°C in Hopedale. Winds will shift to the west during the day, becoming gusty at times.
Northeast Coast
The Postville-Makkovik and Rigolet regions will see sunshine mixed with cloud early before skies become mostly cloudy. Showers are expected to develop late in the afternoon. Temperatures will reach around 10°C, although the morning will feel considerably cooler with wind chill values below freezing.
Southeast Labrador Coast
From Cartwright and Black Tickle south to Norman Bay, Lodge Bay and Red Bay, any lingering flurries early in the morning will end, giving way to a mix of sun and cloud. Afternoon temperatures will range from 7°C along the Strait of Belle Isle to 12°C in some southern coastal communities. Conditions will remain generally dry through daylight hours before showers threaten overnight.
