The City of St. John’s says a longtime resident of Mundy Pond has been permanently relocated to a wildlife rehabilitation facility in Nova Scotia.
Harry, a mute swan that had lived at Mundy Pond for several years, was recently moved to Hope for Wildlife, where he will live among other birds in a more natural and social environment.
Harry had been cared for over the years by public works staff with support from humane services. After losing his nesting partner a few years ago, the swan had been living alone.
Swans are social animals that benefit from the presence of others, and the relocation is intended to improve Harry’s quality of life as he ages.
In recent winters, humane services provided seasonal care for the swan during colder months. Following care this past winter, arrangements were made to move him to the Nova Scotia facility.
The city also acknowledged Rock Wildlife for assisting with the relocation.
