Mount Pearl delivers balanced budget

The City of Mount Pearl presented its 2026 budget during a public meeting on Tuesday.
The total budget is $62.6 million. There will be no change to the residential mil rate or water fees.
It focuses on infrastructure, community safety, recreation, and economic development.
$200,000 has been allocated for Mount Pearl’s first five-year Community Safety and Well-Being Plan; $200,000 for traffic calming measures to improve pedestrian safety.
$565,000 was announced for trail enhancements, playground renewals at Branscombe Pond and Farrell Drive, and Glacier upgrades for accessibility. $75,000 was put forward to strengthen the Summit Centre resources and $200,000 for outdoor court resurfacing.
There will also be support for local businesses, including $1.3 million to enhance pedestrian safety in Donovans with new sidewalks and crosswalks, a $70,000 grant for Façade Improvement and Energy Efficiency Grants, and expanded transit options that offer a more convenient commute to and from work in Mount Pearl.
There will be various infrastructure upgrades. $1.3 million will be put for road maintenance, and there will be $600,000 for facility upgrades, including energy-efficient improvements. $1.8 million for fleet renewal, including electric and hybrid vehicles. $1.5 million for cost-shared projects with provincial and federal partners and $250,000 for Commonwealth Avenue Bridge replacement.
