Premier Wakeham announces major cabinet shuffle

Premier Tony Wakeham has announced a major shakeup of his cabinet, with several ministers taking on new portfolios following the signing of the new Churchill River agreement.
The changes were announced Thursday morning during a ceremony at Government House.
The provincial government says the new cabinet assignments are intended to prepare government for the next phase of major projects, particularly in Labrador, while improving public services, reducing red tape and making government more efficient.
Barry Petten will take on Municipal and Community Affairs, Community Engagement and the role of Registrar General and Deputy Government House Leader. He will retain his existing responsibilities as Deputy Premier, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure and Minister of Public Procurement.
Finance Minister Craig Pardy will also become minister responsible for the Office of the Chief Information Officer. He will continue to oversee Treasury Board, Seniors, the Public Service Commission and the Newfoundland and Labrador Liquor Corporation.
Lloyd Parrott is being appointed Minister of Government Services, Red Tape Reduction and Labour, as well as minister responsible for WorkplaceNL. He will retain his roles as Government House Leader and Minister of Energy and Mines.
Chris Tibbs will take over Social Supports and Well-Being, Housing and Poverty Reduction, while also becoming minister responsible for the Status of Persons with Disabilities.
Joedy Wall will become Minister of Health and Community Services, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions and minister responsible for Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services.
Andrea Barbour is being appointed Minister of Environment, Conservation and Climate Change and minister responsible for the Multi-Materials Stewardship Board.
Mike Goosney will take over Tourism, Culture and Arts, Sport, Recreation and Parks, along with responsibilities for PictureNL, the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council and the Pippy Park Commission.
