Motorists travelling on the Northern Peninsula are reminded to use extreme caution on the roadway between Eddies Cove East, Cooks Harbour and the St. Anthony Airport, as well as St. Anthony to Main Brook.
A large portion of the St. Anthony caribou herd overwinters in this area. There is a significant number of animals using the roads at these locations.
The animals will be attracted to road salt on the roads over the winter.
Motorists are reminded to scan both sides of the highway and encourage passengers to watch for caribou, pay attention to caribou warning signs, avoid driving at dusk and dawn when caribou are more common near highways, and reduce speeds when driving at night when caribou are more difficult to see.
