More structures lost as Kingston fire expected to reach Ochre Pit Cove this evening

The Kingston fire was 4895 ha this morning and is now estimated to have grown to 5000 ha. The fire is expected to reach Ochre Pit Cove this evening. It is confirmed that additional structures have been impacted.


The full fleet of provincial water bombers is actioning the fire along with five helicopters, one birddog aircraft and 50 ground crew.


The Martin Lake fire is being held on the northern flank with assets from New Brunswick and Quebec. There is a focus on the southwestern flank to protect cabins in the area. There continues to be no impact on the highway.


The Holyrood fire is held at 22 ha; it has had no growth and is fully contained.


In Labrador, there is a fire 19 km south of Gosse Bay. A helicopter and ground crew are headed to the site. This fire appears to have been started by lightning.


Assets from Ontario have been delayed due to wildfires in that province. A high-capacity helicopter is expected to arrive tomorrow and can carry 1000 gallons. This helicopter is being contracted from Manitoba.
