Messy mix of weather on the way this weekend

A low will move across Newfoundland overnight.

Newfoundland

The low will bring snow at first to all of the island, snow will quickly change to ice pellets for parts of the Avalon Peninsula and the south coast. These areas will transition to rain overnight and early on Sunday. The southern Avalon could see 25 to 35 mm of rain.

Snow is expected along the west coast, the Northern Peninsula, and most of central. 10 to 15 cm of snow is expected for Deer Lake and most of the Northern Peninsula.

This evening and overnight, winds in the Wreckhouse area will gust to 110 km/h.

Labrador

Snowfall amounts of 20 to 50 cm are expected Sunday midday or evening until Tuesday morning. Wind gusts from 80 to 100 km/h is expected from Nain to Cartwright.

For Upper Lake Melville and Eagle River 20 to 30 cm. Wind gusts from 50 to 70 km/h are expected.

10 to 20 cm of snow is expected along the Labrador Straits with wind gusts to 60 km/h.

Travel

Marine Atlantic anticipates crossings will be cancelled tonight, Sunday, and Monday morning.
