The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary responded to the scene at about 8:30 p.m. on July 27 after receiving reports that two men were in the water when their boat capsized.

When officers arrived, one of the boat's occupants had already been rescued by members of the public. He was taken to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
