Man Charged After Shoplifting Incident in St. John’s

A 40-year-old man has been charged with theft under $5,000 following a shoplifting incident in downtown St. John’s.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary were at a business in the city centre around 9:55 a.m. Tuesday for an unrelated matter when they were approached by a loss prevention officer.

The officer reported that a man was inside the store allegedly stealing merchandise.

Police say the man attempted to flee with the stolen items but was unsuccessful.

He was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000. The man was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
