Man charged after assaulting officer in East End incident

A 34-year-old man is facing charges after police responded to a report of a suspicious person in St. John’s on Tuesday afternoon.

At around 12:30 p.m. on September 9, police were called to a local business in the east end, where a man was found lying on the ground behind a dumpster.

Police determined the man was intoxicated by alcohol. While officers attempted to assist him, he became aggressive and assaulted one of them.

The man was arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer, along with two counts of breaching a release order.

He was held in custody overnight and is scheduled to appear in court in the morning.
