Man Charged After Alleged Break-In, Assault and Downtown Disturbance in St. John's

A 39-year-old man is facing numerous charges after police linked him to two separate incidents in St. John's on Monday evening, including a break-in and assault with a weapon.

The RNC first responded to a disturbance at a residence in the New Pennywell Road area at approximately 8:40 p.m. on Aug. 3.

Police allege the suspect forced his way into a home and assaulted the female homeowner with an edged weapon. Investigators said the victim and suspect were known to each other. Officers searched the area, but the suspect was not immediately located.

Just over an hour later, at approximately 9:53 p.m., officers responded to another disturbance near the downtown pedestrian mall. Police arrested an uncooperative man and determined he was the same suspect wanted in connection with the earlier New Pennywell Road incident.

The man was taken to the St. John's lockup and charged in connection with both incidents.

For the New Pennywell Road incident, he faces charges of breaking and entering, assault with a weapon, uttering threats, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and breach of probation.

In connection with the downtown disturbance, the man was charged with assault, uttering threats, resisting arrest and breach of probation.
