Investigation underway after moose remains found on Batteau Barrens Resource Road


Resource Enforcement Officers are investigating a moose wastage incident after the remains of an adult cow moose were found abandoned on Batteau Barrens Resource Road.
The remains were discovered at the 15-kilometre mark of the road sometime between October 1 and 2.
The road is accessed from Route 430, approximately 12 kilometres south of River of Ponds.
The Department of Forestry, Agriculture and Lands is asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
Under Newfoundland and Labrador’s Wild Life Act, it is an offence to intentionally allow the meat of wildlife killed for food to be destroyed, wasted or spoiled.
Those found guilty of intentional meat wastage face fines ranging from $500 to $25,000 and, if unable to pay, up to three months in prison.
