Firefighters were called to the Health Science Centre just after 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday for reports of a structure fire.

When crews arrived, they were alerted to an electrical surgery bed that had caught fire. Workers at the hospital were quick to unplug the bed and extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher before firefighters arrived.

It is believed that a child was having surgery on the bed at the time of the fire. No injuries were sustained to the child or workers as a result of the fire. The child is believed to have continued his surgery.

The entrance to the Janeway was closed by police as firefighters attended the scene.
