Heavy rain and strong wind expected across western Newfoundland


There are rainfall warnings, special weather statements, and a Wreckhouse wind warning in effect across western Newfoundland and southeastern Labrador.


The remnants of what was Hurricane Ida will track west of Newfoundland tonight and Friday.


Rainfall warnings are in effect for Bay St. George, Burgeo - Ramea, Corner Brook and vicinity, Deer Lake - Humber Valley, Green Bay - White Bay, Gros Morne, and Parson's Pond - Hawke's Bay. In these areas rainfall amounts of 30 to 60 mm is possible. Some areas could see more rain with 80 mm possible.


A special weather statement has been issued for Bay of Exploits, Buchans and the interior, Connaigre, Grand Falls-Windsor and vicinity, Northern Peninsula East, Port Saunders and the Straits, and Red Bay to L'Anse-au-Clair. In these areas 40 to 60 mm of rain is possible.


There is a Wreckhouse wind warning in effect for Channel-Port aux Basques and vicinity. Winds will gust to 100 km/h overnight tonight.


Marine Atlantic is advising that crossings tonight and Friday could be impacted.


The heavy rain may cause localized flooding and hydroplaning will be a risk. Any highway travel should be postponed.
