Green light for the 208th Royal St. John’s Regatta

The oldest continuing organized sporting event in North America is a go today with the 208th running of the Royal St. John’s Regatta.

It will be a jam-packed day of races with 20 races on the schedule for today.

What's closed and what's open?

• All City offices and facilities are closed.

• All recreation facilities and community centres will be closed.

• The outdoor pool at Bannerman Park will be closed all day.

• Robin Hood Bay Waste Management Facility is open for commercial and residential users.

• The Visitor Information Centre is open.

• Curbside waste collection will go ahead.

• Public washrooms at Bannerman Park, Bowring Park, Kenmount Park, Quidi Vidi Lake and Kenny’s Pond are open.

• Bowring Park pool will open at 2:45 p.m. for public swimming following the Kids of Steel Triathlon.

• Splash pads at Bowring Park, Bannerman Park and Kenmount Park will be open.
  

Road closures and no parking zones

To facilitate the Royal St. John’s Regatta, the following roads are closed

• Carnell Drive

• Circular Road (Bannerman Street to Empire Avenue)

• Clancey Drive

• Empire Avenue (Rennies Mill Road to Forest Road)

• Forest Road

• Kenna’s Hill

• King’s Bridge Road

• Lake Avenue

• Lakeview Avenue

• Quidi Vidi Village Road

• Legion Road

• Pleasantville Avenue (Taylor Place to The Boulevard)

• The Boulevard (Access to the Legion will be permitted via East White Hills Road only)

• Winter Avenue

• New Cove Road (Bristol Street to King’s Bridge Road)
  

The road closures commence at 7 a.m. and will end 30 minutes after the last race or until the level of pedestrian activity allows safe vehicular access.

From 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. there will be several no parking zones including:

• Berteau Avenue - east side

• Bristol Street - west side

• Carnell Drive - both sides

• Circular Road - north side Rennie’s Mill Road to Empire Avenue

• Circular Road – south side Monkstown Road to Rennie’s Mill Road

• Clancey Drive - both sides

• East Drive – north/east side

• Glenridge Crescent – inside curve

• Judge Place – west side

• Lake Avenue – both sides

• Lakeview Avenue – both sides

• Legion Road – both sides

• Selfridge Road - both sides

• The Boulevard - both sides

• Tunis Court - inside curve

• Winter Avenue - north side
  

Those looking to attend the Regatta can avail themselves of a Metrobus shuttle route. There is also an accessible parking area at the former Dominion parking lot.
