Grand Falls-Windsor deputy mayor Rod Bennett dies after cancer battle

The Town of Grand Falls-Windsor is mourning the death of Deputy Mayor Rod Bennett following a battle with cancer.

Bennett served on Town Council from 2017 to 2021 before returning to council following his re-election in 2025. He served as deputy mayor until his death.

He was also a member of Qalipu First Nation, where he served as Director of Operations.

The town said Bennett was deeply committed to Grand Falls-Windsor and its residents, describing him as a friendly and familiar face who was approachable, willing to have a conversation and passionate about improving his community.

Mayor Mike Browne, council and town staff extended their condolences to Bennett’s wife, Hilda, his son, Jordan, and his daughter, Alison, along with their families.

The town also expressed sympathy to Bennett’s friends, colleagues at Qalipu First Nation and others who knew and worked with him.

“His contributions to Grand Falls-Windsor will be remembered, and he will be deeply missed,” the town said.
