FFAW holding demonstration in Corner Brook

The FFAW will be holding a demonstration in Corner Brook today at the Government of Canada Building.

The demonstration is to call attention to federal mismanagement of fisheries including the recent decision by Minister Diane Lebouthillier to allocate nearly 60 percent of the newly commercialized Unit 1 Redfish fishery to offshore draggers, instead of inshore, owner-operator vessels.

The Union says Lebouthillier’s decision to prioritize the offshore dragger fleet is contrary to documentation from DFO, which removed the dragger fleet from the Gulf in 1976 due to conservation concerns.
