The federal government has launched pre-budget consultations for Budget 2026, inviting Canadians to provide input on the country's economic priorities ahead of the fall fiscal update.
Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne announced the consultations on July 6, saying feedback from Canadians will help shape the government's plans for supporting workers, families, businesses and communities while strengthening the economy and promoting long-term growth.
The government said Budget 2026 will provide an update on progress made over the past year and outline new measures focused on economic growth, trade diversification, investment, competition and Canada's economic sovereignty.
Canadians can participate in the consultation process until Sept. 8, 2026, through an online portal hosted by the federal government. Officials said public feedback will play a key role in informing policy decisions and broader government priorities.
Throughout the summer, Champagne will travel across the country alongside Wayne Long, Secretary of State responsible for the Canada Revenue Agency and Financial Institutions, and Ryan Turnbull, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance and National Revenue, to meet with Canadians and stakeholder groups.
The consultations will include discussions with businesses, labour organizations, Indigenous partners, community leaders, academics, non-profit organizations and other groups to gather perspectives on economic challenges and opportunities.
Budget 2026 is expected to be tabled this fall.
