The City of St. John's has announced plans to demolish the former H.G.R. Mews Community Centre at 40 Mundy Pond Road after determining the building's condition no longer warrants its preservation.
The city said it will retain ownership of the property following the demolition and will develop a long-term plan for the site. Details about the property's future use will be released once planning has been completed.
Municipal officials are currently in the final stages of selecting a contractor to carry out the demolition work. Once the contract has been awarded, the city said it will provide additional information, including the construction schedule, expected timeline and any anticipated impacts on the surrounding area.
Demolition of the former community centre is expected to begin this fall.
