Canadian Forces mobilize to respond to Newfoundland

The Federal Government has approved a Request for Federal Assistance from the Provincial Government.


Federal Minister of Emergency Preparedness Bill Blair said, "I have approved a Request for Federal Assistance from the provincial Government for Canadian Forces to help local authorities ensure the safety of residents, as well as assist in assessing the damage from Hurricane Fiona."


MP Seamus O'Regan said the Canadian Forces Rangers will immediately assess the situation. There are also three platoons of reservists on standby, 100 personnel and the HMCS Goose Bay and HMCS Margaret Brooke in St. John's are ready to help.
