Canadian Coast Guard welcomes new search and rescue lifeboat in Corner Brook

The Canadian Coast Guard has officially welcomed the CCGS Groswater Bay into service, adding another modern search and rescue lifeboat to its fleet.

The dedication ceremony was held September 16 in Corner Brook.

Philip Earle, Member of Parliament for Labrador, attended the ceremony on behalf of National Defence Minister David McGuinty.

The Groswater Bay is a high-endurance Bay Class Search and Rescue Lifeboat built by Hike Metal Products Ltd. in Wheatley, Ontario.

The vessel was delivered to and accepted by the Canadian Coast Guard in August 2024 and will be stationed in Lark Harbour on Newfoundland's west coast.

The Coast Guard says the vessel will strengthen its ability to respond to mariners in distress and provide search and rescue services along the coast.

The Groswater Bay is part of a planned fleet of 20 new Bay Class Search and Rescue Lifeboats being delivered to the Canadian Coast Guard through the federal government's National Shipbuilding Strategy.
