Newfoundland and Labrador's aquaculture industry generated $453 million in farmgate value in 2025, accounting for nearly 40 per cent of the total value of seafood produced in the province.
The figures, released by the Newfoundland and Labrador Aquaculture Industry Association (NAIA) ahead of its annual Cold Harvest Conference & Trade Show, highlight the growing role of aquaculture in the province's food supply and rural economy.
NAIA executive director Bradley George said the numbers demonstrate the sector's importance to Newfoundland and Labrador's food-security goals.
"These numbers show that aquaculture is a major contributor to that conversation," George said. "Our sector provides healthy, sustainable food while supporting economic growth and stability in coastal communities across the province."
George said aquaculture is expected to play an increasingly important role as demand grows for reliable sources of nutritious protein.
