Some Schools, Post Secondary, Government Offices & More Closed on Friday #nlwx


With a major winter storm expected for the eastern half of Newfoundland, there are several closures for Friday...

All schools on the Avalon Peninsula will be closed on Friday. Schools in Bonavista are also closed all day.

CNA Burin campus, Ridge Road campus, Bonavista campus, Placentia campus, Prince Philip Drive campus in St. John’s, Child Care Centre, ATC Centre and Topsail Road offices, and Seal Cove Campus closed all day.

Provincial Government offices in the St. John’s metro area will be closed. An update on whether offices will open in the afternoon will be provided by 6:30 a.m.

MetroBus Transit will not be operating today.

In the City of St. John's the following facilities are closed: City Hall, all recreation facilities, the Animal Care and Adoption Centre, the Visitor Information Centre, the Railway Coastal Museum, City Archives and Robin Hood Bay Regional Waste Management Facility.

Garbage (Area 5) and recycling (Area 5B) is scheduled for today are rescheduled to Monday, January 20. Collection times will be different than normal as there will be collection from Area 5 and Area 1 on Monday, January 20.

All City of Mount Pearl buildings and facilities will also be closed.

Garbage and recycling collection in Mount Pearl has been cancelled. Collection will now take place on Monday, January 20th.
