Storm Coverage: Snow and Strong Winds Batter Eastern Newfoundland #nlwx

A strong area of low pressure is bringing heavy snow and strong winds to the eastern half of Newfoundland.

The snow and strong winds will last a few more hours.

The Avalon Peninsula is the hardest hit.

Up to 45 cm of snow is expected for the Avalon, with 15 to 30 cm expected elsewhere in the warning areas. There will also be wind gusts near 100 km/h, along the immediate areas of the coast, winds may reach 120 km/h.

Here is where you can check for school closures.

For the southeastern Avalon, snow may change to ice pellets or even a rain-snow mix. As a result, lesser snowfall amounts are expected in those areas.

Waves of 6 metres are expected along the coast of the Northern Avalon and St. John's on Monday morning. Coastal flooding is possible.
