Halloween Storm Heading for NL #nlwx


Halloween, Friday, and Saturday will be scary for sure but it won't be ghosts and goblins we have to worry about, it will be the weather.

There are several warnings, watches, and special weather statements in effect across the western part of Newfoundland and all of Labrador.

Across the west coast of Newfoundland, strong winds gusting to 100 km/h will develop tonight and linger through Friday. There will also be heavy rain with 50 to 75 mm expected for the west coast and Northern Peninsula of Newfoundland.

In Labrador, rain won't be an issue but snow will... For Eagle River to Labrador City snowfall amounts of 15 to 30 cm are possible.

Heavy rain is expected in Red Bay to L'Anse-au-Clair with 40 to 60 mm likely.

There will also be wind gusts to 70 km/h.

The precipitation moves in tonight and will linger through Friday in Labrador.

Marine Atlantic is also impacted. The North Sydney to Port aux Basques crossing scheduled for today at 11:45 pm is now scheduled to depart Friday morning. The Port aux Basques to North Sydney crossing scheduled for this evening is also scheduled to depart Friday at 11:45 am.

The crossings scheduled for Friday may also be impacted.
