On Thursday evening, the Christmas lights were switched on at the Confederation Building in St. John's as part of the 39th annual Winter Lights Across Canada celebration.

Premier Tony Wakeham was joined by Deputy Premier and Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Barry Petten, and Abbigail Taylor from Conception Bay South, who activated the lights on Confederation Hill.

Entertainment was provided by Kirsten Rodden-Clarke, CBS Youth Choir, and the Royal Newfoundland Regiment Band.

The Winter Lights Across Canada celebration is an annual event where each province and territory decorates its capital city and holds its own lighting ceremony.
