U.S. President Donald Trump has terminated trade talks with Canada after seeing an ad from the Ontario Government about the impacts of tariffs, using words from a speech from former U.S. President Ronald Reagan.
The ad was shown on major television networks in the United States.
The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute also said the words were used without permission and the ad misrepresented the former president’s words.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said in part, "Based on their egregious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT."
