The local economy is based on fishing.
Northern Bay is not incorporated as a municipality.
The area is perhaps best known for Northern Bay Sands, a popular beach and campground area. Northern Bay Sands features two freshwater pools. There are two bars, a laundromat, a café and a take-out restaurant within walking distance of the beach.
As with most other communities in the province, there are breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean.
