The St. John's Regional Fire Department is warning consumers about certain LED surface-mounted luminaires that were found to carry unauthorized UL certification marks.
According to the notice, the products have not been evaluated by UL Solutions to the appropriate safety standards and may pose potential electrical and fire hazards.
UL Solutions issued a public notice regarding LED Linear Highbay Light products sold by Clearspace. The company said the products bear unauthorized UL certification marks for both Canada and the United States.
Consumers who purchased the affected products are being urged to remove them from service immediately and replace them with properly certified lighting products.
UL Solutions said its testing for LED lighting products evaluates potential risks, including electrical shock hazards, fire risks, and health concerns related to electromagnetic radiation exposure.
The affected luminaires reportedly include the following information on product labels:
Clearspace Task Lighting
“5140 Yonge 2220,” “171 East Liberty,” “Suite 808,” or “Clearspace-33 Yonge 610”
Ratings listed as 120-347VAC, CCT: 4000K
cUL and DLC Listed markings
Officials are advising consumers and businesses to check lighting products carefully and ensure certification marks are legitimate before use.
