RSV immunization expanded to babies and adults 75 and older

Newfoundland and Labrador is expanding its publicly funded respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) immunization program to include all babies under six months old born in the province on or after May 1, 2026, and adults aged 75 and older.
The expansion is supported by a $3.9-million investment announced in Budget 2026.
Adults 75 and older can book an RSV immunization appointment online or by phone. NL Health Services will hold clinics for the age group from October 13 to 18.
Eligible adults can also receive the vaccine through participating pharmacies and physicians.
RSV is a seasonal respiratory virus that generally causes mild, cold-like symptoms, but can lead to serious illness in infants and older adults.
Public health officials are also reminding parents that RSV immunization is available to eligible babies aged six months and younger before they leave hospital after birth. Officials say receiving the immunization before discharge provides the best protection during the infant's first RSV season.
The program will continue to cover previously eligible high-risk groups, including children up to two years old entering their first or second RSV season who are at high risk of severe infection, as well as adults aged 60 and older living in congregate settings.
Eligible residents can book an appointment and find additional information through Time for the Shot.
