RNC Lays Child Trafficking Charges

On December 18, 2024 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) has laid additional charges against Anthony Humby.
The 64-year-old will appear in court today on 7 charges of trafficking persons under the age of 18, with the offences occurring between 2006 and 2022.
The investigation began in November 2022 and has involved hundreds of interviews, and extensive electronic data collection and forensic analysis. In total, Humby is facing 79 charges specific to 13 complainants. His co-accused, 82-year-old Bruce Escott, has pled guilty to seven charges and will be sentenced in 2025. Both men remain in custody.
This an active and ongoing investigation. The RNC continues to prioritize and support survivors as they come forward. Officers recognize the impact of trauma and work to ensure complainants are not re-traumatized through the investigative process.
All survivors of sexual violence are encouraged to reach out for help from a trusted resource as soon as it is safe to do so. Members of the Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit are available to speak with anyone that has information or questions. With a trauma-informed focus, officers educate and inform survivors of their legal and investigative options while also directing them to appropriate resources based on their individual situation or needs.
The RNC can be reached at 709-729-8000. In the event of an emergency, always call 911.
