RNC are issuing Halloween Safety Tips to ensure a Frightfully Fun Night

(St. John’s, NL) October 29, 2024 – As ghosts and goblins prepare to haunt the streets this Halloween, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) is encouraging parents, children, and drivers, to consider these safety tips to ensure the night is all treats and no tricks.
TRICK-OR-TREATERS:
· Plan your route in advance and stay away from unfamiliar, poorly lit areas.
· Trick-or-treat with friends or a trusted adult, and never enter a home or vehicle.
· Ensure costumes are bright and reflective and face masks do not obstruct vision.
· Stay on sidewalks, wherever possible. Do not cross back-and-forth the street to get house-to-house.
· Where possible, carry a cell phone in the event you need to make an emergency call.
· Check treats before they are consumed and discard any open or suspicious-looking candy.
DRIVERS:
· Slow down, especially in residential areas.
· Stay alert. Avoid all distractions and keep your eyes on the road.
· Be aware that children, in their excitement, may not see your vehicle. Watch for children on sidewalks and at crosswalks.
HOMEOWNERS:
· Ensure trick-or-treaters have a clear and well-lit path to your home.
· Choose a safer LED option for decorations rather than flame lit candles.
· Distribute only factory-sealed candy or treats.
If you see anything suspicious report it to police immediately.
The RNC is wishing everyone a wickedly wonderful night. Happy Halloween!
