One male sent to hospital following cabin fire at Cochrane Pond Campground on Saturday evening.
The St John's Regional Fire Department (SJRFD) along with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) and NL Health Services (NLHS) responded to the scene, Shorty after 8:00 p.m. on Northern Pond Road.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke billwing from inside of the campground on the east side. While firefighters made thier way in to access the fire, a male was being assessed by paramedics into the back of awaiting ambulance. A witness at the stat said to Newfoundnews that the male had severe burns but that is yet to be confirmed the RNC at this time.
After a few moments, firefighters made thier way into the campground were they found a small structure type cabin fully engulfed in flames, Crews layed two attacks lines to fight the blaze, it took fire crews roughly fifty minutes to extinguish the blaze and the remaining two hours to check for remaining hotspots and clearing up.
The blaze destroyed the structure and is now under investigation by the RNC Fire
Investigation Unit.
