NLCU Launches Fall Food Drive
For the second year in a row, the NLCU has launched its Fall Food Drive at all 12 locations, from St. John’s to Stephenville and north to Labrador City.
Donations of non-perishable food items will be distributed to local food banks. Cash donations will be given to the Community Food Sharing Association, which distributes food to 54 food banks in the province.
Research in 2021 revealed that 17.9 per cent of households in Newfoundland and Labrador – approximately 90,000 people – experience food insecurity. The province also recorded the highest percentage of children under 18 living in food-insecure households in Canada at 26.4 per cent.
The slogan for the food drive is “Open a Can of Generosity.” Donations of non-perishable foods and cash will be accepted at all 12 NLCU branches until October 31.
