New members added to Order of Newfoundland and Labrador

Seven people from this province were inducted into the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador on Tuesday.


The ceremony was held at the Colonial Building. Lieutenant Governor Judy Foote and Premier Furey congratulated the recipients.


This year’s recipients are Robert Cormier, Dr. Catherine Donovan, Alan Thomas Doyle, Dr. Janice Fitzgerald, Carla Furlong, Joseph Goudie, Dr. Proton Rahman and Maxwell (Max) Short.


The Order of Newfoundland and Labrador is the province’s highest honour. There are 135 Newfoundlanders and Labradorians invested in the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador.


To be considered an individual must be nominated for the award. Recipients are presented with a medal bearing the shield of Newfoundland and Labrador surmounted by the Crown.


Members receive a certificate signed by the Lieutenant Governor, Chancellor and sealed with the seal of the Order, as well as a miniature medal and a lapel pin. Members of the Order are entitled to use the initials O.N.L. after their names.
