Mark Carney wins Liberal Leadership, will become Prime Minister #CDNpoli

Mark Carney has been elected as Liberal Leader and is also now Prime Minister-Designate.


The 59-year-old Carney won the leadership beating Frank Baylis, Chrystia Freeland, and Karina Gould.


Justin Trudeau announced back in January that he would be stepping down as leader once a new successor was chosen.


On January 16, Carney officially announced that he was running in the 2025 Liberal Party of Canada leadership election. Carney also announced that he stepped down from all executive, board and advisory positions that he was part of in order to focus on his leadership campaign.


The economist served was the 8th governor of the Bank of Canada from 2008 to 2013 and the 120th governor of the Bank of England from 2013 to 2020. Additionally, he was the chair of the Financial Stability Board from 2011 to 2018.


He has been married to his spouse Diana Fox since 1994 and the couple have four children.
