The RCMP arrested 27-year-old Jordan Penunsi for refusal on Tuesday after she refused to provide samples to determine the drug or alcohol content in her blood.
The police received a report of an intoxicated female who arrived at the hospital in a pickup truck. Staff at the hospital were concerned about the possibility of impaired operation just before 6:00 p.m.
Penunsi was located at the hospital. She displayed signs of impairment and was arrested for impaired operation. She was provided with a demand for a blood sample to confirm impairment by alcohol or drugs; however, she refused to comply.
Her driver’s license was suspended, and her vehicle was seized and impounded. She was released from custody and is expected to appear in court on November 20.
Refusing to comply with a demand issued as part of an impaired operation investigation is a criminal offence. If convicted, this offence carries the same penalties as a charge of impaired operation.
