Democrats win control of Congress

Americans headed to the polls on Tuesday.
With the ballots counted so far, there will be 258 Democrats and 177 Republicans in the House of Representatives. In the Senate, there are 54 Democrats and 44 Republicans.
The result means that the Democrats now control both the House and the Senate.
The election determines the makeup of the 120th United States Congress, which is scheduled to begin its term in January 2027. For the Senate, 51 seats are needed for control, and in the U.S. House, 218 seats are needed for a majority.
All 435 seats in the House of Representatives are up for election, along with a portion of the 100 seats in the U.S. Senate. Voters in several states will also elect governors and decide local and state-level races.
