Canada imposes sanctions on seven individuals linked to Iranian Regime

Canada has imposed additional sanctions against seven individuals connected to the Iranian regime, Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand announced.

The measures were enacted under the Special Economic Measures (Iran) Regulations and target individuals allegedly tied to Iranian state bodies responsible for intimidation, violence and transnational repression.

The sanctions respond to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s efforts to use repression and violence both within its borders and abroad.

The federal government said the sanctioned individuals are linked to activities targeting Iranian dissidents and human rights defenders, including alleged harassment, surveillance and planned acts of violence in Europe and North America.
