Canada and Denmark have signed a new defence co-operation agreement aimed at strengthening ties across the North Atlantic and High North.

The memorandum of understanding was signed on Friday during the Munich Security Conference by Defence Minister David J. McGuinty and his Danish counterpart, Troels Lund Poulsen, alongside Faroese minister Sirið Stenberg and Greenlandic minister Vivian Motzfeldt.

According to National Defence, the agreement will enhance co-operation in defence innovation, materiel and industrial partnerships, mutual logistics support, and personnel training, exercises and education.

Officials say the deal reflects a shared commitment to transatlantic security and reinforces collaboration between North Atlantic Treaty Organization allies amid growing global security challenges.

The memorandum builds on recent momentum in the bilateral defence relationship, including Denmark’s decision to join Canada’s Maritime Security Partnership at the NATO Summit on June 25, 2025.

Canada and the Kingdom of Denmark are longstanding allies with close geographic and strategic ties, particularly in the North Atlantic and Arctic regions. Both countries have worked together for decades on regional security and broader Euro-Atlantic defence initiatives.
