Bay St. George RCMP seeks assistance identifying dirt bike operator

The RCMP in Bay St. George is seeking assistance from the public in identifying the operator of a dirt bike who fled from police in Stephenville on October 18.

That afternoon, RCMP officers were conducting school zone enforcement during pick up time near Stephenville Primary School on West Street. Police observed a red and white Honda CRF dirt bike driving on a sidewalk in front of the school during heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

The officer directed the dirt bike operator to an adjacent parking lot. Instead, the operator did a “wheelie”, fled at a high rate of speed on the sidewalk in front of the school and continued through two school crosswalks.

Officers located the dirt bike a short time later and again tried to conduct a traffic stop, this time activating emergency equipment on a marked police vehicle. The operator again failed to stop. Video surveillance of the dirt bike and operator was obtained.

The dirt bike operator was wearing a dark jacket with a bright red hoodie underneath, grey pants, a blue helmet with neon yellow/green accents and dark goggles.

Anyone having information on the identity of the dirt bike operator is asked to contact Bay St. George RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
