Applications Open for St. John’s Traffic Box Art Program

The City of St. John’s is accepting applications for its 2026 Traffic Box Art Program, an initiative that transforms traffic signal control boxes into public art installations throughout the city.

The program invites visual artists to design and paint original artwork on metal traffic signal boxes located at intersections and along roadways. City officials say the initiative helps beautify public spaces, enhance neighbourhood character and discourage vandalism.

Artists selected to participate will receive an honorarium of $500.

The Traffic Box Art Program was previously administered by Clean St. John’s and is now being facilitated directly by the City of St. John’s.

Applications are open until June 19.

The city encourages interested artists to submit their proposals before the deadline.
