Details remain scarce, but Premier Tony Wakeham will meet with Quebec Premier Christine Fréchette in St. John's today, where a new Churchill Falls deal is expected to be announced. Prime Minister Mark Carney will also be in attendance.

The announcement, focused on energy security and economic development, is scheduled for 1:45 p.m.

Fréchette will be joined by Quebec Economy, Innovation and Energy Minister Bernard Drainville and Hydro-Québec President and CEO Claudine Bouchard.

The 1969 Churchill Falls agreement is a long-term power contract signed between Hydro-Québec and the Churchill Falls Labrador Corporation that required Newfoundland and Labrador to sell the vast majority of its generated hydroelectric power to Quebec at a fixed low rate.
