Operation Impact, which will take place October 5-8, is a co-ordinated traffic initiative by police agencies across the country to increase public compliance with safe driving practices through zero-tolerance enforcement and education.

Its goals are to save lives and reduce injuries, targeting impaired driving (alcohol/drug), distracted driving (cell phone use & texting), seatbelt use and aggressive driving. This initiative will occur over the Thanksgiving Day holiday weekend when traffic volume is expected to increase.

Operation Impact is also designed to remind drivers to consciously consider road safety whenever they get behind the wheel, to ensure all passengers are properly restrained in their vehicle, to refrain from drinking and driving, to pay attention to the road at all times and to refrain from aggressive driving behavior.

RCMP police officers from Traffic Services and Detachments throughout the province will conduct checkpoints and enforcement activities over the holiday weekend.
