Debit Cards Stolen From Corner Brook Vehicles


The RNC is in Corner Brook are investigating two thefts from vehicles that occurred in close proximity of each other.

On May 28, 2018 RNC Patrol Services received a report of a theft from vehicle that had occurred overnight from a residence on Anstey’s Hill. It was reported that someone had entered into a vehicle through an unlocked door and stole credit and debit cards from the vehicle.

Upon reporting the cards stolen to the applicable financial institution that issued the cards, it was revealed that illegal transactions and purchases had been made throughout the city using these cards.

In the second report, on May 28, 2018 RNC received information that another vehicle had been entered on Pleasant Street.

In this situation, a person entered into a vehicle through an unlocked door and stole debit card and other personal information.

Once again, upon reporting the cards stolen to the applicable financial institution that had issued the cards, it was revealed that illegal transaction and purchases had been made throughout the city using the cards.

These matters remain under investigation by the RNC Criminal Investigation Division. The RNC would encourage owners of vehicles to lock vehicle doors when vehicles are unoccupied and to remove any valuable property from vehicles to help prevent this type of crime.

Identity Theft can occur when personal information and financial information is accessed by unauthorized persons. Victims of Identity Theft can have their credit rating compromised and can sometimes take 6 months to 2 years to have one’s credit rating re-established in good standing.
